Witch Hazel can be known as a great toner for the skin, but is it actually doing good things for the skin? Witch Hazel contains antioxidants that are beneficial but there is one main antioxidant called tannins. Tannins can constrict and dry out the skin. If you have acne and use witch hazel, it can actually make your skin worse. It’s an “astringent” product and can dry up the acne. Drying up the acne with an astringent can irritate the skin, resulting in worse skin problems. Using witch hazel for oily skin can seem tempting since it will dry it up. In reality it will dry up your skin because of the tannin and alcohol content. in the end witch hazel can do more damage than you think. Finding a toner that doesn’t contain witch hazel and/alcohol will be better for your skin in the long run.
